What is a CHI Journals Presentation?
A CHI Journals presentation gives authors the opportunity to get increased exposure for their paper by presenting it at the conference while also benefiting from the greater continuity of the journal review process. CHI Journals invites selected authors of papers accepted to ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (ToCHI) to present their work at the conference. Historically, we also have accommodated presentation slots for papers published at other HCI journals, but invitations to such papers depend on the availability of space.
Submissions to CHI Journals are by INVITATION ONLY. Invitations will be sent by the CHI Journals chair (journals@chi2024.acm.org) to the corresponding author of papers. Invited authors are then required to submit details on their paper to PCS. All unsolicited submissions will be rejected.
Invitations are usually made within one year of a paper being accepted by the journal. For example, papers being invited for presentations at CHI 2024 will normally have been accepted between November 2022 and October 2023. Authors should also be aware that each ToCHI paper can be presented at only one ACM conference.
Invited authors who would like to present their papers at CHI 2024 must make a complete submission in PCS. Requirements for presentation at the conference will also be sent by email to authors and available in the Guide to a Successful Presentation. Any submission that is incomplete or that does not fulfill the requirements for presentation at the conference will not be considered for inclusion in the program. Authors are required to present their work in a scheduled session with other CHI Papers. The particulars (e.g. duration, and live/pre-recorded presentation) for paper authors to present their work will depend on the situation. Such information will be sent by email to the corresponding author.
After the notifications, authors will be asked to submit a 30-second video preview summarizing the paper; this is optional, but highly encouraged, as it will increase the visibility of your paper before, at the conference, and in online video platforms. Authors are strongly encouraged to work on improving the accessibility of their video. In order to prepare for the hybrid nature of the conference, authors will also be required to prepare a video presentation. Technical Requirements and Guidelines for Videos at CHI detail how to make videos accessible.
Your Journal Paper at the Conference
Authors are not required to travel to CHI 2024 to publish their paper. Accepted authors must present their work at the conference synchronously in-person or asynchronously remotely. All accepted authors are required to upload a video presentation of up to 15 minutes in duration by the video presentation deadline. See technical requirements for video content at CHI.
Additional PDF Accessibility Advice
- A trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro is available, and it will let you tag papers (https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/free-trial-download.html).
- Speak to your co-authors to see if they have the resources to help make your paper accessible. Learning how to do PDF tagging will benefit our community in the long run.
- If the above steps are not possible, you can send the PDF to the Accessibility Chairs at accessibility@chi2024.acm.org. However, please refrain from sending us your PDF too early. We want to reduce repeated efforts and if your paper needs to go through TAPS again, then it will need to be retagged. Send the PDF after you are confident no more corrections will need to be made.
