CHI 2024: Know Before You Go

Whether it be in-person or online, we are excited to have you join CHI 2024, which is only one week away!

CHI 2024 will take place from Monday, May 13th, through Thursday, May 16th. Workshops will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 11th and 12th (9:00 to 17:00 HST).

Be sure to attend the Opening Plenary on Monday, May 13th at 9:00 HST. And don’t miss presentations by our terrific CHI 2024 Keynote Speakers, Kate Crawford and Sam ʻOhu Gon III!

Attending CHI 2024 in-person in Hawaiʻi

CHI 2024 Location

In-person CHI 2024 will take place at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center (HCC), in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. CHI 2024 events are located all throughout the Center with registration check-in being placed in the main hall foyer.

Be sure to first check-in at registration to get your CHI 2024 badge!

Registration Check-in and Hours

Check-in for your CHI badge early! Do so on Sunday to avoid long lines on Monday morning! Photo identification is required to check in. Be sure to bring any kind of photo ID – passport, student ID, driver’s license, etc. – for registration check-in.

Registration will be in the main hall foyer in the Hawaiʻi Convention Center. Enter from the north end of the building at the plaza where Atkinson Drive meets Kapiolani Boulevard.

Saturday – 8:00 to 16:00
Sunday – 8:00 to 17:00
Monday – 8:00 to 19:00
Tuesday – 8:00 to 18:00
Wednesday – 8:30 to 17:00
Thursday – 8:30 to 12:00

CHI 2024 Reception – Monday, May 13th

Join the CHI 2024 sponsors and exhibitors for the CHI 2024 reception! This will take place on Monday, May 13th from 17:30 to 19:30 HST in the Kamehameha Hall 1 at the HCC.

Merchandise Hours

Connect with a friend going to CHI in-person to have them purchase merchandise for you!

CHI Merchandise can only be purchased and picked up in Hawaiʻi at the CHI Merchandise kiosk located in the HCC in the main hall foyer next to CHI Registration. Shipping is not available for CHI Merchandise. Please note that CHI Merchandise can only be purchased with a credit card. Merchandise is limited in availability.

Food and Beverage at CHI

Bag and Coat Check

Bag and coat check is not available at CHI. Our advice is to leave your luggage in your hotel room while attending CHI, or check it at your hotel bell desk if you need storage after hotel check-out. Personal bags, such as small bags and backpacks, are welcome at CHI.

Monday – Exhibits, Interactivity and Conference Reception – 17:30 to 19:30
Tuesday – Exhibits and Invited Talks – 10:00 to 19:30 (Job Fair and Interactivity from 17:30 to 19:30)
Wednesday – 10:00 to 17:30
Thursday – 10:00 to 12:00

Attending CHI 2024 Virtually and In-Person

The Progressive Web App (PWA) – CHI Virtual Platform
The PWA is where all the content of the conference is available. It is also where you will officially ask questions. Please note that paper sessions are not streamed synchronously but the video presentations can be watched and discussed at any time. CHI Communication is on Discord!

Discord is used for CHI 2024 for general discussions and social chatting. It requires a personal account to log in. A personal account can be created for free at: https://discord.com/. The specific URL to join the CHI Discord is included in your welcome email.

Steps to join the CHI Discord Channel

  • Upon entering, introduce yourself using your registered name and confirmation number on the introduce-yourself channel. The hybrid team will be manually allowing you to join the conference channels using this information.
  • Your CHI Confirmation Number: This is unique to your registration
  • Ask any questions that you may have in the help-desk channel only regarding the hybrid experience.
  • The following channels are initially set up:
    • rules (read this carefully)
    • chi (for general technical discussions)
    • meeting-people (for social interactions)
    • introduce-yourself (here you will give your confirmation number)
    • help-desk (questions about the use of virtual tools)

Again, if you want to ask questions about specific sessions, please use the PWA as outlined above.

Hybrid Sessions (Keynotes and Panels)

After you join, choose a room; each room corresponds to one of the hybrid sessions. After asking a question, you will need to wait for approval from the moderation team.
